The retired Dean of Namirembe Cathedral, Rev. Canon Augustine Magala Musiwuffu, has criticized the government for failing to address critical challenges, affecting Ugandans.

He says Ugandans have for decades cried for better health services, road infrastructure, and sound judicial system among others, but nothing has come through.

He says this renders the government purposeless to the citizens.

Canon Musiwuffu made the remarks while leading a requiem service for the late Edith Katende, wife to Waiswa Mufumbiro the Opposition National Unity Platform NUP Deputy Spokesperson at Namirembe Cathedral.

He urged government to promote fair governance system, emphasizing the need to ensure equal opportunities for all Ugandans regardless of their background.

The cleric also called for the release of all political prisoners, noting that justice and respect for human rights are essential for national unity and development.

He also asked the Court to release Waiswa Mufumbiro to have a chance to bury his wife.

Meanwhile the leader of Opposition in parliament (LOP) Joel Ssenyonyi has sent his condolences to the family and NUP supporters asking court to sympathize with Mufumbiro and grant him Bail to bury his wife.

Edith Katende Mufumbiro died of cancer on Tuesday morning 7th April 2026 an illness that has affected her for quite a long period of time.

The burial of Edith Katende Mufumbiro, is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Luuka District.

Mufumbiro is on remand over charges of ‘Unlawful Drilling’ but he insists he never stepped at the Makerere Kavule NUP headquarters on the said date of February 12th 2025 he was at Mulago Cancer Institute caring or his wife.
