KAMPALA — For many Ugandan hip-hop fans, Da Agent is one of the rappers who kept Lugaflo alive when the genre started losing space in mainstream music.
The Bwaise-born rapper, whose real name is Ivan Wabwire, became known for his unusually fast rap style and energetic performances. His ability to switch between speed, wordplay and Luganda punchlines made him stand out from many artists in the local rap scene.
Before music became a career, Da Agent spent years freestyling around school and in Kampala suburbs, especially Bwaise where he grew up. He officially joined the industry in 2015 and slowly built his name through underground rap battles, performances and studio releases.
Songs like Njukunju, Baliwa, Ngalo Ngalo, One Day and Bamungamba helped push his name further, especially among fans of hardcore Lugaflo music.
His consistency later earned him recognition at several music awards. In 2016, he won Best LugaFlow/Rap Song at the Zzina Awards. He went on to win Best LugaFlow/Rap Artist in 2017 and again in 2018. In the same 2017 period, he was named Central Rapper of the Year at the UG Hip Hop Awards and also received recognition in the Teeniez Hood Rapper category at the Buzz Teeniez Awards.
Unlike many rappers who moved away from hip-hop for commercial sounds, Da Agent stayed rooted in rap. Fans and fellow artists have often credited him for continuing to represent Lugaflo at a time when the genre was struggling for mainstream attention.
Away from the studio, the rapper has also used music to promote Buganda culture and local identity. He has previously performed at events attended by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
Today, Da Agent continues releasing music independently through his DA AGENT OFFICIAL YouTube channel while remaining one of the familiar faces in Uganda’s hip-hop movement.
For his fans, the appeal has always been simple — speed on the mic, street authenticity and staying true to Lugaflo.
