Kampala, Uganda – A Canadian citizen has been charged before the Kampala Chief Magistrate’s Court over allegations of involvement in a gold scam estimated at $1.5 million (about Shs5.5 billion).
Michel Faille, 64, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Friday and was remanded to Luzira Prison until August 12, 2026, as police continue investigations into the case.
Prosecution alleges that Faille was involved in obtaining money from victims through false claims related to gold transactions.
The matter comes at a time when authorities are increasing scrutiny of Uganda’s mineral sector, especially high-value gold dealings that have attracted both domestic and international players.
Court is expected to receive an update on the progress of investigations when Faille returns on August 12. The accused remains innocent until proven guilty.
