Journalists, political leaders and media personalities across Uganda are mourning the death of Joseph Sseruwoza, a Parliament reporter and political talk show host at BBS Terefayina.
Sseruwoza was known within Uganda’s political reporting circles for covering parliamentary proceedings, governance debates and national political affairs.
Through his work on television and in the field, he became a familiar face among viewers who closely followed current affairs and legislative developments.
At BBS Terefayina, the Buganda Kingdom-owned television station launched in 2016, Sseruwoza contributed to political programming and public affairs discussions broadcast largely in Luganda.
The station has over the years grown into one of Uganda’s influential indigenous-language broadcasters with a strong focus on politics, culture and current affairs.
Colleagues described Sseruwoza as a composed and professional journalist who maintained strong relationships across the media and political landscape.
Many said he played an important role in simplifying parliamentary discussions and political developments for ordinary viewers.
News of his passing spread Friday morning, triggering tributes on social media from fellow journalists, politicians and members of the public, many of whom remembered him for his calm presentation style and dedication to journalism.
His death comes at a time when Uganda’s media industry continues to witness the loss of several experienced journalists and broadcasters in recent years, prompting renewed discussions about the pressures associated with political reporting and broadcast journalism.
Political reporting remains one of the most demanding beats in Uganda’s newsroom environment, with journalists often required to work long hours covering parliamentary sessions, political rallies, press briefings and rapidly evolving national events.
By Friday morning, official details regarding the cause of death had not yet been publicly communicated by family members or close associates.
Funeral and burial arrangements were still being finalized.
Joseph Sseruwoza will be remembered for his contribution to parliamentary journalism and his role in informing the public on matters of governance and national importance.
