Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa today represented the First Lady, Janet Museveni, at the 2026 Annual General Assembly of the UWESO, held at the Office of the President Conference Hall.

Delivering her message to the National Executive Committee, partners, and stakeholders, Tayebwa shared reflections from the First Lady on UWESO’s remarkable four-decade journey. What began as a bold initiative by a group of committed Ugandan women responding to the challenges of conflict, poverty, and HIV/AIDS has grown into a nationwide movement transforming lives across generations.

In her message, the First Lady called for deliberate investment in children and caregivers through education, skills development, and the nurturing of strong values to enable them lead meaningful and productive lives. She also applauded UWESO’s efforts in promoting self-sustenance at the community level, particularly through empowering caregivers and strengthening grassroots structures for lasting impact.

She further commended the organisation’s founders, leadership, and partners for their unwavering dedication to supporting vulnerable children, urging continued commitment to building the capacity, character, and confidence of Uganda’s next generation.

In his own remarks, Tayebwa expressed gratitude to the First Lady and the visionary leaders who laid the foundation of UWESO, noting its enduring positive impact across the country. Marking the occasion, he also enrolled as a member of the organisation, receiving his UWESO membership card.
