With just four days left to polling day, the Uganda Police Force has issued a stern warning against election-related violence, urging candidates and supporters to exercise restraint and uphold peace throughout the electoral period.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, the Police Chief Political Commissar, AIGP Ubaldo Bamunoba, said the country has entered a delicate and decisive phase of the electoral process, marked by heightened political activity and intensified campaigns.

“At this stage, candidates are amplifying their messages through different platforms and physical engagements. However, there is absolutely no justification for engaging in criminal acts in the name of elections,” AIGP Bamunoba said.

He called on citizens to reject violence, even in the face of provocation from political opponents, noting that peaceful participation in elections is a sign of political maturity and national responsibility.

AIGP Bamunoba urged members of the public to report any incidents of violence or disorder to the nearest police station or security agency for immediate action, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies remain alert and ready to respond.

“The Uganda Police Force, working closely with other security agencies, assures the nation of its total and unwavering commitment to securing the electoral process at all levels,” he said.

He added that Uganda has registered notable progress in the management of elections over the years, warning that such gains could only be protected through peaceful engagement and respect for the rule of law.

Turning to candidates seeking leadership positions, the police political commissar reminded them that leadership begins with personal conduct.

“Clean leadership is born of clean conduct. Those aspiring to lead must demonstrate discipline, responsibility and respect for democratic principles,” Bamunoba said.

He stressed that peace must remain the country’s guiding value before, during and after the elections, noting that stability is essential for safeguarding democracy and securing Uganda’s future.
