President Museveni on Sunday called on Ugandans to actively participate in national development initiatives, emphasising that the country’s economic progress depends on both government programmes and public engagement.
Speaking at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Museveni engaged with former NUP members, Muslim supporters, students under the Sauti ya Vijana platform, and members of the Unstoppable group, all of whom pledged their support for ongoing development efforts.
“Today at Kololo, I met and engaged four groups. They pledged their support, and I thanked them for standing with us,” he said.
Museveni highlighted the importance of programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and free education, urging citizens to ensure these initiatives are implemented effectively at the household level. He said that real transformation starts when every family participates in income-generating activities and contributes to the money economy.
“I urged them to work with us to enforce free education in government schools so that no child is charged illegally. I also called on them to join the money economy through PDM and other government programmes,” he said.
The President also pointed to Uganda’s economic achievements, noting steady growth and surpluses in key products. He said this progress is a result of collective effort, combining government planning with active citizen involvement.
“Uganda is doing well. Our economy is growing steadily, and we now have a surplus in most products,” Museveni said.
While acknowledging remaining challenges, including reports of corruption and mismanagement, Museveni stressed that sustained economic development requires vigilant citizens and accountable local leadership to ensure that programmes reach the communities they are intended to benefit.
“Reports of jobs being sold at the district level and theft of drugs must stop. But more importantly, every household must take part in development so we can build a stronger, self-reliant Uganda,” he added.
By framing development as a shared responsibility, Museveni positioned citizens as key partners in Uganda’s economic transformation, linking government programmes to tangible improvements in the daily lives of Ugandans.
