President Museveni has said that the future of Kasese District lies in wealth creation and job generation through commercial agriculture, tourism and manufacturing, as he launched his campaign engagements in the Rwenzori sub-region.

Speaking at his first campaign rally in Bukonzo East Constituency, Kasese District, Museveni presented the National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2026–2031 Manifesto to residents, outlining key economic pillars he said would transform the district and the wider region.

The President told the gathering that Kasese’s economic potential can be unlocked through commercial agriculture, services—particularly tourism such as wildlife and mountaineering—and manufacturing.

“The future of Kasese lies in wealth and jobs from three areas: commercial agriculture, services like tourism, including wildlife and mountaineering, and manufacturing,” Museveni said.

He emphasized government programs aimed at equipping citizens with practical skills and access to capital, citing Emyooga and the Presidential Skilling Hubs as central to translating policy into household income.

“That is why we emphasise Emyooga, practical skills and the Presidential Skilling Hubs, so our people can earn and sustain themselves,” he added.

Museveni also acknowledged infrastructure gaps in the vast Kasese District, calling for increased road construction and additional road equipment to improve connectivity and support economic activity.

On social and historical matters, the President reaffirmed government commitments to pay pensions to the people of Rwenzururu, resettle the Banyabindi community, and develop historical and cultural memorial sites such as Katebwa.

“We must preserve our history while building the future,” he said, noting that cultural heritage remains an important part of national identity and reconciliation.

As the election period intensifies, Museveni urged Ugandans to turn out in large numbers and support the NRM, arguing that continuity in leadership is necessary to consolidate past gains.

“As elections approach, I call upon all Ugandans to vote NRM so that we consolidate the gains we have made and move forward together,” he said.

The rally marked the start of Museveni’s campaign activities in Kasese District, where economic empowerment, infrastructure development and social cohesion remain key voter concerns.
