President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has criticised some leaders from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) for spending too much time making speeches in the Parliament of Uganda instead of focusing on solving the real problems affecting citizens.

In a message shared Wednesday while meeting party leaders in Masaka, Museveni said some leaders were wasting valuable time with unnecessary debates rather than addressing issues facing the “wananchi.”

“Some leaders waste time speaking in Parliament instead of addressing the real problems of the wananchi,” Museveni said. “Leaders must expose corruption in their areas and demand solutions.”

The President emphasised that leaders should be bold enough to confront corruption at local levels and actively push for practical solutions that improve the livelihoods of ordinary Ugandans.

Museveni also urged NRM leaders not to shy away from defending the achievements of the ruling party, saying they should openly highlight government successes while rejecting divisive politics based on religion and tribe.

“They should not fear to speak about the achievements of the NRM government and to reject sectarianism based on religion and tribe,” he said.

The meeting in Masaka brought together NRM leaders from the region to discuss governance issues and strategies for improving service delivery.

Museveni also praised his granddaughter, Justin Nameere, for organising the gathering and commended her determination during the Masaka Woman Member of Parliament race, where she insisted on a vote recount that ultimately confirmed her victory.

“I thank my Muzukulu, Hon. Justin Nameere, for organising this meeting and commend her courage in insisting on a recount during the Masaka Woman MP race, which she won,” Museveni said.

The President’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the ruling party about improving accountability among leaders and strengthening grassroots engagement with citizens.
