The newly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Kibaale District, Annette Nabadduka Akiiki, has announced her candidacy for Deputy Speaker in the 12th Parliament, setting up a contest with incumbent Thomas Tayebwa.

Nabadduka revealed her bid at Parliament while picking up her swearing-in invitation card.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place from May 13 to 15, 2026, at Parliament, running daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Members will be sworn in alphabetically, each permitted to attend with up to three guests, while persons with disabilities may bring an additional aide.

She pledged to serve as a neutral and attentive Deputy Speaker, emphasizing her commitment to fairness and inclusivity in parliamentary proceedings. “I will ensure every Member of Parliament is given a fair opportunity to contribute and benefit,” she said.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Trade and Industry and MP-elect for Mawokota North, Amelia Kyambadde, has vowed to revive key government projects that stalled following her exit from Parliament in 2021.

Kyambadde, who also collected her swearing-in invitation, expressed concern over delayed development initiatives in her constituency, attributing the setbacks to a lack of representation.

Among her top priorities are the completions of Mpigi Central Market, the construction of a new health facility, and the procurement of a ferry to serve Buyiga Island on Lake Victoria, home to more than 10,000 residents.

She reaffirmed her commitment to restoring momentum on these projects to improve livelihoods and service delivery in Mawokota North.
