WAKISO — Police in Kajjansi Division have opened investigations into the death of a one-year-old baby girl who is alleged to have been poisoned in a disturbing incident reported from Katwe Cell, Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso District.

The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise, a one-year-old infant.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary findings indicate that the child had been left under the care of her maternal relative, described as a nephew to the complainant, while the mother attended night duty over the past two days.

Investigators allege that the suspect later admitted to giving the child an overdose of unspecified medicine, claiming the baby frequently disturbed him during the night.

The medication is believed to have been intended to make the child sleep, but the situation escalated, resulting in her death.

Police have classified the case as murder by poisoning, with detectives continuing to gather evidence, record statements, and await further medical examination results to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities say the suspect remains a person of interest as investigations proceed.
