The Ugandan football body (FUFA) Federation of Uganda Football Associations has announced its commitment to develop women’s football in the country, urging commercial growth, infrastructure development and also invest big in the girl child.
This was announced by the FUFA President Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo at the press launch of FUFA Women Super League Commercial Strategy held at Imperial Royale Hotel today 10th, Tuesday, 10th February 2025.
The launch opened up a big initiative under FIFA Women’s Football Development Programme, when Uganda and Romania were picked as the only two countries worldwide to try the innovative commercialisation project.
Speaking at the event, FUFA President Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo flashed back at a time when female players had teams and were forced to join boys and compete.
“Women’s football in Uganda has come a long way. In the early days, girls who loved the game had no choice but to play alongside boys. Over time, dedicated teams were formed, competitions emerged, and stars began to shine. That is how we have reached the level we are at today,” he said.
Magogo credited FIFA for its big trust in Uganda’s progress, extending his hospitality to the FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
“Progress may be gradual, but that’s the right approach. Football thrives when there is investment at every level, and through time we have strengthened our commercial capabilities, secured government backing, and benefitted from increased support from FIFA,” Magogo added.
The FUFA President emphasised the importance of legal protections and infrastructure in enabling9 commercialization.
