KOBOKO — Former Koboko District Council Speaker George Ambe has died at the age of 78.
Family members said Ambe died after spending more than 16 days in the intensive care unit.
Ambe was a veteran local government leader and respected elder in Koboko District in the West Nile sub-region, where he served as district council speaker.
He was known for his long involvement in local administration and community affairs and remained active in community initiatives in the region in his later years.
Ambe was also listed as chairperson and treasurer of Smart Change Uganda, a community-based organisation involved in initiatives in northern Uganda, including Arua and Koboko.
His death marks the loss of a figure who spent several years participating in the leadership and development of Koboko District.
Koboko, located in the West Nile sub-region, is also historically known as the home area of former Ugandan president Idi Amin.
Details of Ambe’s funeral arrangements and tributes from district leaders and other public figures had not been widely released by Thursday.
More information is expected from the family and local authorities as preparations for his burial continue.
