The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has condemned the arrest of Erias Lukwago, the acting leader of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), describing the move as politically motivated.

Lukwago was reportedly arrested at his home today and taken to an undisclosed location.

His arrest is alleged to be linked to plans to serve Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba with court documents related to a case involving his clients, Dr Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale.

Last week, Besigye and Lutale filed a petition in the High Court accusing Gen Muhoozi of human rights violations, including alleged abduction from Kenya and issuing threats against Besigye’s life.

In the ongoing treason case against Besigye and Lutale, Justice Emmanuel Baguma ordered Gen Muhoozi to file his defence by 18 June, with the hearing scheduled for 30 June.

However, Gen Muhoozi later posted on X, stating that “a fool is currently in a basement learning Kiswahili,” without naming anyone, and warned that anyone attempting to serve him court papers in the matter would be arrested.

Speaking at FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, party vice chairperson Robert Centenary said Lukwago’s arrest was politically motivated and targeted at government critics.

He further argued that the incident amounts to an attack on lawyers and the judiciary, saying the case has exposed weaknesses in the justice system.

Centenary urged government to allow legal processes to proceed independently instead of involving security agencies in political disputes.
