New Kampala city lord mayor, Ronald Balimwezo, has appointed Lubaga II councillor Faridah Nakabugo as his deputy lord mayor.

Nakabugo was elected on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket and has also been appointed secretary for administration and human resources, placing her at the core of the city’s internal management and staffing system.

On Monday, Balimwezo unveiled a four-member executive committee at City Hall in which he appointed three women for the key positions at Kampala city executive committee.

Kawempe II councillor, Shamim Nambasa, was unveiled as secretary for finance and will oversee budgeting, revenue planning and fiscal management of Kampala.

Dr Judith Nalukwago, the Makindye III councillor was appointed secretary for social services and tasked with overseeing health, education and community welfare programmes.

Godfrey Luyombya, councillor Nakawa II was appointed secretary for civil works and physical planning, responsible for infrastructure development, urban planning and city works.

The Kampala executive committee is expected to shape the administration’s agenda on service delivery and urban development in the capital city. Balimwezo called on the newly appointed members to prioritize unity, accountability, and inclusive leadership while serving city residents.

“We must serve all people of Kampala regardless of their political affiliation; leadership is about improving lives and delivering services to the citizens,” Balimwezo said.

The appointments come at a time when Kampala faces growing challenges related to infrastructure, service delivery, and urban management, issues the new executive committee is expected to address during its term in office.
