A fire has gutted workshops and destroyed several businesses in Kireka, Kampala, leaving traders and other property owners counting their losses.

The fire broke out at Kireka Future workshops, opposite Farmers Market, with reports indicating that several people have lost property in the incident.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, although preliminary reports suggest that a possible electrical short circuit in one of the machines used at the workshop may have triggered the blaze. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Police Fire Brigade officers were still battling the fire at the time of reporting, as efforts continued to bring the situation under control and prevent further destruction.

No deaths had been reported by the time of publication. The extent of the damage and the total value of the property destroyed were not immediately established.

Authorities are expected to establish the exact cause of the fire as investigations and response efforts continue.
