Kampala, Uganda: Media personality and political commentator DJ Jacob Omutuze has publicly criticised singer Weasel Manizo after the musician allegedly mocked his recent election loss, sparking a heated exchange that has drawn widespread reaction on social media.

In a strongly worded response shared on his platforms, Omutuze accused Weasel of lacking moral authority and failing to show sensitivity toward candidates who participate in democratic processes.

He argued that elections are serious civic engagements that should be treated with respect, regardless of the outcome.

“Leadership and elections are not a laughing matter,” Omutuze reportedly said, adding that public figures should be mindful of the influence their words carry, especially among young followers and supporters.

The dispute began after Weasel Manizo made comments perceived by Omutuze’s supporters as ridiculing his unsuccessful political bid.

While some online users defended the singer’s remarks as lighthearted or part of free expression, others criticised the tone, saying it undermined political participation and respect among public personalities.

The exchange has since fueled debate among fans, commentators, and political observers about the role of entertainers in political discourse and the boundaries between humour and disrespect in public conversations.

By press time, Weasel Manizo had not issued an official response to Omutuze’s criticism, and there were no indications of reconciliation between the two figures.

Observers say the incident reflects growing tensions between politics and entertainment in Uganda’s increasingly social-media-driven public space.
