The Richest Africans in the World
By Bossip Africa & Forbes Africa
March 2026
The Bossip Africa Billionaires Index 2026 ranks the wealthiest individuals of African origin across the global economy, tracking fortunes derived from publicly traded companies, private holdings, and other identifiable assets.
The index reflects the growing influence of African capital in international markets. Over the past two decades, the continent has seen a steady rise in ultra-high-net-worth individuals driven largely by industrial manufacturing, telecommunications, mining, and global luxury markets.
Today, Africa’s billionaires collectively control well over $100 billion in wealth, with Nigeria, South Africa, and Egypt emerging as the leading hubs for billionaire entrepreneurs.
The 2026 ranking is led once again by Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote, whose fortune has risen to about $30.6 billion, cementing his position as the richest African and the first African entrepreneur to surpass the $30-billion threshold. Much of his wealth is tied to Dangote Cement, the largest cement producer in Africa, as well as the multibillion-dollar Dangote Oil Refinery, which began operations in recent years.
South African luxury magnate Johann Rupert ranks second, followed by diamond heir Nicky Oppenheimer, while Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris continues to build wealth through global construction and chemical investments.
