The Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has ordered Stirling Civil Engineering Limited to complete maintenance works on the 21-kilometre Namungoona–Bwaise section of the Northern Bypass by next Monday.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the minister’s inspection of the project, where he expressed concern over delays that have disrupted traffic and frustrated thousands of road users.
Byamukama instructed the contractor to speed up the remaining works by deploying additional manpower and equipment to ensure the deadline is met.
“I am giving the contractor until Monday next week to complete the ongoing maintenance works on the Northern Bypass,” the minister said.
He noted that the prolonged works have resulted in persistent traffic congestion along one of Kampala’s busiest roads, making daily travel difficult for motorists and other commuters.
The minister stressed that completing the repairs on time is essential to restore normal traffic flow and reduce the inconvenience caused by the continued closure of sections of the bypass.
He warned the contractor to prioritise the outstanding works and ensure the road is fully reopened within the agreed timeframe.
