The National Unity Platform (NUP) has accused state actors of interfering in the Kalangala by-election after videos allegedly showing ballot stuffing and electoral irregularities emerged online.
The opposition party shared footage from the island district claiming it captured individuals tampering with ballot papers during the voting exercise.
NUP officials described the developments as evidence of organised rigging aimed at influencing the outcome of the election.
“The election has been heavily overshadowed by accusations of state-engineered rigging,” the party said while posting the videos on social media.
The allegations have sparked widespread debate among political supporters and observers, with critics questioning the credibility of the electoral process in the district.
Eyewitness videos circulating online showed groups of people gathered around polling areas amid growing tension and heavy security deployment. Opposition supporters claimed some of their agents were intimidated or blocked from effectively monitoring the exercise.
By press time, neither the Electoral Commission nor police authorities had issued a detailed statement addressing the allegations raised by NUP.
The Kalangala by-election has attracted national political attention, with both opposition and ruling party supporters closely monitoring the process due to its broader political significance.
Political commentators warn that continued allegations of vote manipulation could further erode public trust in electoral institutions if concerns raised by competing political actors are not transparently addressed.
