The nearly two-decade-long dispute over the estate and lineage of the late legendary Kadongo Kamu musician Paul Kafeero is finally expected to come to a close, with authorities set to announce official DNA results this month.

The Uganda Police Force and the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory (DGAL) will on June 25, 2026, publicly release and read out DNA findings involving more than 25 individuals who have all claimed to be children of the late music icon.

The announcement was confirmed by Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who has been actively involved in efforts to resolve the long-standing family dispute. The official reading will take place at Police Headquarters in Naguru.

Barugahara said the DNA analysis was carried out jointly by the Police Forensic Laboratory, headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Andrew K. Mubiru, and the DGAL team led by Kepher Kuchana Kateu.

He explained that the results will be presented in a controlled public setting, attended by journalists, the claimants, their mothers, relatives, clan leaders, and selected close associates of the late Kafeero who will be invited individually.

For years, multiple individuals have publicly claimed to be the children of Paul Kafeero, triggering disputes within the family and widespread public debate. However, none of the claims had previously been scientifically verified.

Authorities say the DNA exercise is intended to provide final clarity and bring closure to a matter that has remained unresolved for 19 years.
