Charles Peter Mayiga Warns Entertainers Against Pride and Misuse of Fame

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has advised entertainers in Uganda to remain humble and disciplined even as they achieve fame, influence, and financial success.

Addressing youth and members of the creative industry at an event in Kampala, Mayiga said fame can easily mislead public figures into arrogance and irresponsible behavior if not handled carefully.

He stressed that entertainers carry significant influence in society and should use their platforms to promote positive values instead of engaging in conduct that damages their image and misguides young people.

According to Mayiga, talent alone is not enough to sustain a successful career, noting that good character, respect for others, and self-control are equally important.

He further encouraged artists to avoid extravagance and instead focus on personal development, education, and long-term investment opportunities that can secure their future beyond entertainment.

The Katikkiro also applauded Ugandan entertainers who continue to support charitable causes and community initiatives, saying such efforts demonstrate leadership and social responsibility.

His comments arrive at a time when Uganda’s entertainment sector continues to attract growing audiences both locally and internationally, especially through music, comedy, film, and online content creation.

Cultural observers say Mayiga’s message highlights the increasing concern among leaders over the social impact of celebrity culture and the need for entertainers to remain connected to societal values.
