The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that it is fully prepared to conduct mayoral and councillor elections in municipalities and city divisions across the country today.

According to EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, all voting materials have already been delivered to district offices and will be distributed to polling stations early in the morning. He explained that voting will begin at 8:00 am, provided at least 10 registered voters are present at a polling station.

Mucunguzi encouraged eligible voters to participate in large numbers, while remaining calm and peaceful as they exercise their constitutional right to vote. Meanwhile, candidates have called on the Commission to ensure transparency, order and fairness throughout the electoral process.

In addition to the local government elections, the Commission will also conduct fresh parliamentary polls in areas where voting was previously suspended. Elections in Kibanda North Constituency and Ibanda Municipality were halted on 15 January 2026 after errors were discovered on ballot papers.

EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said all polling stations in Kibanda North and Ibanda Municipality will reopen today. Voting in these areas will take place from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, after which counting will be done at the respective polling stations and results announced immediately.

In Ajuri County, repeat voting will be conducted at 18 polling stations in the parishes of Awori, Acede, Ojul and Owalo, where earlier results were nullified.
