National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine says he remains in hiding, claiming that he is still being pursued and threatened by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Kyagulanyi’s claims come amid a public war of words between the two on the social media platform X that began shortly after the 15 January general elections. In a series of posts, General Muhoozi accused Kyagulanyi and senior NUP leaders of inciting violence and issued threatening statements against him.
Since leaving his home in Magere, Wakiso District, a day after the elections, Kyagulanyi has not disclosed his location. Through social media, he has repeatedly alleged that security forces have surrounded and raided his residence several times in search of him.
Over the weekend, Kyagulanyi reported that his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, was admitted to Nsambya Hospital in Kampala after allegedly suffering trauma during a security operation at their home. He said the incident was part of continued efforts to trace and arrest him.
Posting on his official X account, Kyagulanyi claimed that despite being protected by supporters, threats against his life have persisted. He further alleged that several of his supporters and party leaders have been arrested, while others have reportedly lost their lives, simply for opposing President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership.
On Monday, General Muhoozi dismissed the allegations and denied any wrongdoing by the army. He also rejected claims that Kyagulanyi’s wife was assaulted, stating that soldiers do not target women and insisting that the security forces are only interested in Kyagulanyi himself.

Meanwhile, the government has sought to downplay the standoff. Minister of Information and ICT, who is also Government Spokesperson, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, said Kyagulanyi is not being hunted by either the police or the army and has no reason to remain in hiding.
Baryomunsi urged the opposition leader to return home and comply with the law, accusing him of exaggerating the situation for political attention. He insisted that Kyagulanyi is free and faces no official pursuit by state security agencies.
