Kampala, Uganda — The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Jackson Pande Kajuba as the new Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Armoured Division based in Masaka, in a fresh reshuffle within the military’s senior command structure.

Brig Gen Kajuba takes over from the late Brig Gen Deus Sande, who passed away after reportedly suffering severe breathing complications.

His appointment comes at a time when the UPDF continues to reorganise key operational units to strengthen command efficiency and readiness.

In the same changes, Col Wilson Bagonza Rwakanara of the Special Forces Command (SFC) has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division.

His elevation is seen as part of efforts to reinforce leadership within one of the army’s critical mechanised formations.

The Armoured Division, headquartered in Masaka, plays a central role in Uganda’s conventional military capabilities, particularly in mechanised warfare, rapid deployment, and strategic defence operations.

Military sources say the reshuffle is aimed at ensuring continuity of command following the death of Brig Gen Sande, while also strengthening operational effectiveness through experienced leadership.

Further details regarding additional changes within the UPDF leadership structure had not been officially released by press time.
