The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Military Police Brigade, working with the Uganda Police Force, has launched a joint operation to enforce traffic regulations and curb illegal activities on roads in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

According to a statement issued by Chris Magezi, the operation started on Monday, March 9, with security teams mounting checkpoints across major roads in and around Kampala.

Authorities say the exercise is aimed at restoring discipline on the roads, ensuring full compliance with traffic regulations, impounding unregistered or numberless vehicles, and stopping the illegal use of sirens by motorists.

The statement also dismissed claims circulating in some quarters that the deployments were intended to arrest Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Officials said the checkpoints are part of enforcement measures that have previously been carried out to address traffic indiscipline and criminal activity involving motorists.

Motorists, including motorcycle riders, have been urged to cooperate with officers from the Military Police and Traffic Police as the operation continues.
