A 16-year-old Senior Four student at New Life Secondary School in Luwero Town Council has died after allegedly being assaulted by a teacher, while another student who was reportedly beaten in the same incident is receiving treatment in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Nicholas Nakibinge. The identity of the second student has not yet been released.

According to preliminary police findings, the incident happened at around 5:00 pm on Tuesday within the school premises. Nakibinge is said to have sustained severe injuries during the alleged assault and died while being rushed to Luwero Hospital for treatment.
Police have identified the prime suspect as Abraham Mukalazi, a Physics teacher at the school. He reportedly fled after the incident and is currently being sought by detectives.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima confirmed the incident, saying two other teachers have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations as police intensify the search for Mukalazi.

Investigators are working to establish the circumstances that led to the alleged assault and determine what exactly transpired before the student’s death.

Meanwhile, police have directed that Nakibinge’s body be transferred to the Mulago Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
