A 34-year-old woman is in police custody in Wakiso District following allegations that she tortured a 10-year-old boy in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division.

Police identified the suspect as Nankunda Esther, who is currently detained at Nateete Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities said the victim, a Primary Four pupil, had been left in the care of the suspect by her brother. The alleged incident occurred on March 20, 2026, during Eid Day celebrations at about 5:00 p.m.

According to preliminary findings, the suspect accused the child of stealing 100,000 Ugandan shillings and allegedly punished him by burning his hands using a heated polythene bag.

The child has since been rescued and taken for medical examination, while police work to establish the full extent of the injuries and circumstances surrounding the case.

The suspect is expected to be charged and produced in court, police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have strongly condemned the alleged abuse, urging the public to report cases of violence against children and emphasizing the need to protect minors from harm.
