KAMPALA — The Parliamentary Appointments Committee, chaired by Anita Annet Among, has vetted Samuel Akena following his reappointment as the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons.

The vetting process took place at Parliament, where the committee examined Akena’s qualifications and readiness to continue serving in the senior leadership role within the Uganda Prisons Service.

Members of the committee used the session to assess his track record and discuss priorities for improving prison management, security, and inmate rehabilitation across Uganda’s correctional facilities.

After the vetting, the committee confirmed that its decision would be formally communicated to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who will take the next step in the appointment process.

The Appointments Committee plays a key oversight role in reviewing presidential appointments to ensure that nominees meet the required standards of competence and integrity before they assume office.
