NIRA Launches Online Pre-Registration Portal For National ID Applications

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has issued an online pre-registration portal for Ugandans to apply for the National Identification cards.

Available at https://prereg.nsis.nira.go.ug/pre-registration-ui/#/eng, the platform enables applicants to start the registration process.

This is aimed at easing  pressure on physical registration centres

Previously, the registration process was predominantly manual, requiring applicants to visit NIRA offices or designated registration points to fill out paper forms.

The new portal allows first-time registrants and card renewals to submit detailed personal and parental information digitally.

Once an application is completed, the system generates a unique Application ID that applicants must present, along with a printed copy of their application form, at the nearest NIRA registration centre to finalise biometric enrollment.

However, NIRA says the availability of the self-service function does not replace the conventional way of applicants walking to NIRA centres and filling in physical forms.

“For better functionality, applicants are encouraged to access the browser using computers, not phones,” NIRA says.
