Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, founder of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has announced a major leadership change in the organisation, replacing Kasambya County MP David Kabanda as Secretary General with Tingey County MP Fadil Twalla.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Gen Muhoozi confirmed the immediate transition and expressed gratitude to Kabanda for his contributions over the past three years.
“The new General Secretary of PLU is Hon. Fadil Twalla. I will work closely with him to achieve our objectives. I thank Hon. Kabanda for his three years of excellent service. He set the standard high for the position,” Muhoozi said.
The PLU founder further directed the organisation’s leadership to organise a formal handover ceremony as soon as possible.
He instructed National Vice Chairperson Michael Nuwagira to coordinate the event, with all PLU ministers and Members of Parliament required to attend.
“The National Vice Chairperson of PLU, Mr Michael Nuwagira, is hereby instructed to organise the handover/takeover ceremony of the position of General Secretary of PLU as soon as possible, from Hon. Kabanda to Hon. Fadil. All PLU ministers and Members of Parliament must attend,” he directed.
While effecting the change at the top, Gen Muhoozi signalled stability in other key positions.
Michael Nuwagira will continue serving as National Vice Chairperson, while Edwin Karugire, Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda will remain on the PLU Central Executive Committee.
Kabanda, who held the Secretary General position for three years, was known for his bold and outspoken communication style within PLU circles, earning him the popular nickname “Omutume” (the messenger).
The leadership reshuffle occurs as the Patriotic League of Uganda continues to strengthen its structures and expand its political influence in the lead-up to Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
