The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, survived a tragic road accident on Tuesday while en route to Fort Portal to attend the Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference.

The accident occurred in Kagadi District along the Kyenjojo–Kagadi road. According to eyewitnesses, the minister’s convoy was involved in a serious crash that resulted in significant damage to one of the vehicles.

Fortunately, Hon. Barugahara escaped with no life-threatening injuries and was quickly rushed to a nearby medical facility for a precautionary check-up.

Security officials and first responders acted swiftly at the scene, ensuring the minister and other passengers received prompt medical attention.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, though initial reports suggest adverse road conditions may have played a role.

Hon. Barugahara has since issued a brief statement expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers he has received from the public, as well as the efforts of emergency services and health workers.

“I thank God for His protection. I also commend the quick response of the people on the ground and our medical teams. I am safe and recovering well,” he said.

Despite the traumatic experience, sources close to the Minister confirm that he remains committed to his mission and is expected to resume his official duties, including participation in the Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference, once cleared by doctors.

The Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference is a key regional event that brings together young leaders, policy makers, and cultural stakeholders to discuss issues affecting youth development in Uganda.

Hon. Barugahara’s intended presence at the event highlights the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and engagement in national development.
