Ugandans have called on the government to intensify public sensitisation on the controversial Sovereignty Bill 2026 before it is assented to by the President.

In interviews conducted with residents of Nsambya in Makindye Division, Kampala, many respondents admitted to having little or no knowledge about the contents of the bill, saying they feel excluded from the legislative process.

Several residents noted that a significant number of Ugandans, particularly those in remote areas, have not received adequate information about the bill’s discussions and readings in Parliament.

They stressed the importance of inclusive communication to ensure citizens clearly understand the implications of the proposed law.

The concerns come after the 11th Parliament passed the controversial Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, on Tuesday evening at around 9 p.m.

The session, held under heavy security, exposed sharp divisions among lawmakers over the scope of state control on foreign influence and national security matters.
