The government, through the Ministry of Transport, has suspended the operations of Nile Star bus company nationwide, effective yesterday at 6:00 PM, for a period of one month.

This follows an accident caused by driver Mandela Kasimu, in which 7 people died, and several others were injured in Nwoya.

Works and   transport state minister( transport) Fred Byamukama announced this afternoon, further clarifying that this driver had previously been dismissed from YY Company at the age of 64, and that while these buses are grounded, he has ordered their operators to compensate the families of those who lost their loved ones and publicly apologised to the nation

In a single year, buses from this company have been involved in 11 accidents, resulting in 56 deaths and leaving 91 people injured, causing action from the government to tame the vice.

They have been ordered to submit all documentation regarding their buses and how they recruit and manage their drivers; if they fail to comply, they will be banned from providing transport services to Ugandans.

The minister dismissed claims that accidents are caused by poor roads, noting that there are roads in good condition that still see accidents.
