The ceremony was overseen by senior officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority, where the Executive Director declared Balimwezo duly sworn in and proceeded to hand over the Lord Mayor’s seal and instruments of office, marking the official transfer of authority.

The handover at City Hall attracted city officials, political figures, and members of the public who witnessed the change in leadership at Kampala’s highest political office.

The transition formally closes the chapter of former Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who has led the city’s political leadership for multiple terms, and ushers in Balimwezo’s five-year mandate from 2026 to 2031.

In his initial remarks, Balimwezo emphasized the need for urgent reforms in urban infrastructure, drainage management, and traffic flow, describing Kampala as a city requiring “decisive and practical leadership” to address long-standing challenges.

The event concluded with tight security around City Hall as supporters gathered outside, marking the beginning of a new political era in the capital.
