Court Intern Jailed Pending Bail Hearing Over Alleged Sharing of Sensitive Case Records

A court intern attached to the Gulu High Court has been remanded to prison after being accused of sharing sensitive judicial records linked to opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

The intern, Gloria Grace Laker, is currently pursuing a Diploma in Law at the Law Development Centre and had been placed at the High Court in Gulu for clerkship training.

Prosecutors allege that Laker took photographs of entries in the court’s criminal register and circulated them online without authorization.

The information reportedly referenced a criminal case involving Kyagulanyi, the leader of the National Unity Platform.

Laker appeared before Grade One Magistrate Miriam Amoro, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Her legal team attempted to seek bail, but the court postponed the application because the state attorney assigned to the case was not present.

Magistrate Amoro ordered that the accused be remanded to prison until March 17, 2026, when the bail application will be formally considered.

The case has drawn attention to concerns about the handling and protection of sensitive judicial records within Uganda’s court system.
