The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with the British High Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney, on strengthening defence and security cooperation between Uganda and the United Kingdom.

The meeting took place in Fort Portal and was also attended by Lt Col Ash Wiseman, the British Defence Attaché to Uganda.

The discussions focused on areas of mutual cooperation, including UK support to UPDF schools, professional development, technical training and capacity building across various military disciplines.

The two sides also discussed regional security, counter-terrorism and opportunities to enhance military training programmes.

Gen Kainerugaba and Chesney reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular engagements aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship between Uganda and the UK.

The meeting follows a series of engagements between UPDF leadership and British officials, including Gen Kainerugaba’s recent visit to the UK, where he held high-level bilateral discussions.

The latest engagement underscores continued efforts by Kampala and London to deepen defence cooperation based on shared security interests and mutual respect.
