The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a series of measures aimed at curbing inflated ticket prices and black-market sales ahead of the highly anticipated CHAN 2024 quarter-final clash between Uganda and Senegal at Namboole Stadium on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
During Uganda Cranes previous fixture against South Africa at Namboole, ordinary tickets would cost UGX 40000 to UGX 70000 from their original prices of UGX10000.
CAF has urged fans to make early purchases to avoid the disappointment of last-minute scrambles. In a bid to block hoarding and illegal resales, the continental football body has limited each buyer to a maximum of three tickets only.
“All CHAN 2024 tickets are exclusively available online. Any so-called physical tickets in circulation are fake or duplicate,” Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communication and Signage Sub-Committee of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) while addressing the journalists at Uganda Media Center on Wednesday.
CAF further cautioned fans against purchasing electronic tickets from third parties, noting that while some may appear genuine, they are often resold to multiple buyers, creating duplicates that will not be honored at the stadium gates. Holders of fake or duplicate tickets will be denied entry.
Security remains a top priority for CAF and the LOC, with the Uganda Police Force leading joint operations to ensure a safe and secure tournament environment. Fans under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, or those displaying aggressive behavior, will also be denied entry even if they hold genuine tickets.
“Uganda has so far staged a safe and successful tournament, and we thank the Government of Uganda for making security a top consideration,” Mugimba added.
The quarter-final marks Uganda’s only home fixture at this stage of the tournament, with the Cranes set to face continental giants Senegal at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The match is expected to draw thousands of fans eager to see Uganda chase yet another historic milestone on home soil.
Meanwhile, teams that exited after the group stage, including Guinea, Niger, and South Africa, have begun their journey back home, together with their traveling supporters. CAF clarified that travel and accommodation arrangements remain the sole responsibility of individual fans.
Uganda Cranes will battle defending champions Senegal in the first quarterfinal bout (5pm) before Algeria takes on Sudan (8pm) at Namboole on Saturday.
