Ugandan music heavyweight Bebe Cool continues to make bold moves on the African music scene with the growing success of his new album Break the Chains. His latest milestone? A global debut of his collaboration with Joshua Baraka, Cheque, on BBC 1Xtra this Monday.

The track was featured on DJ Edu’s signature mix show, where it got a special London-style remix infused with urban electronic vibes—giving the song a fresh, international flavor.

Bebe Cool and DJ Edu share a long-standing musical relationship dating back to 2015, when the Ugandan artist’s remake of Philly Lutaaya’s Born in Africa earned critical acclaim on BBC 1Xtra. Their partnership was rekindled recently with Games, another track from the Break the Chains album.

On Tuesday, Bebe Cool touched down in Nairobi to begin his East African media run. Speaking on Kenya’s Kiss FM, he brought humor to the airwaves as he shared his thoughts on navigating Nairobi’s infamous traffic:

“In Kampala, you can move like a VIP with a lead car. But here in Nairobi, everyone’s stuck the same way—you just have to endure it,” he joked to presenters Muchina and Cyd.

Amid the media blitz, Bebe Cool took time to engage with the community, visiting Mitaboni ABC Girls School. A touching video of him performing Cheque with the students has since gone viral, showcasing a softer side of the veteran artist.
