Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has confirmed that she recently underwent a cosmetic procedure after her changed appearance became the subject of widespread discussion on social media.

The mother of five attracted attention after appearing in a video that left many fans questioning whether she had altered her face. While some praised her new look, others criticised it, fuelling days of online debate.

Responding to the reactions, Zari said much of the appearance that sparked the controversy was due to an experimental makeup style rather than the cosmetic procedure itself.

She explained that her makeup artist had tried a “fox eye” look, which made her face appear much tighter than usual.

“My face has become a whole national discussion,” she said. “The makeup was a bit too much because my artist wanted to try something different, and it changed the way my face looked.”

Zari, however, admitted that she had undergone a cosmetic enhancement, clarifying that it was not a full facelift as many people had claimed. Instead, she said she had a temporal lift, a minor procedure that focuses on the area around the eyes.

She stressed that this was her first facial cosmetic procedure and dismissed speculation that she had repeatedly undergone facial surgery.

According to Zari, the decision was simply part of maintaining her appearance as she gets older. She said there is nothing wrong with improving one’s looks if it boosts confidence.

“I have always been beautiful. This is just an enhancement because as we age, our bodies and faces change,” she said.

The businesswoman also urged people to stop criticising those who choose cosmetic procedures, arguing that everyone should be free to make personal decisions about their appearance without fear of judgement.

“If doing something makes you feel better about yourself, then there is nothing wrong with it,” she said.
