Katerima Secondary School in Tororo District has been closed following a week-long student strike that disrupted normal learning at the institution.
The decision to shut down the school was taken after students reportedly staged a protest over unresolved concerns, prompting intervention from school administrators and local authorities.
The strike, which lasted several days, affected academic activities as students declined to attend lessons, forcing officials to step in and assess the situation.
Authorities have since ordered the temporary closure of the school to allow investigations into the cause of the unrest and to find a lasting solution before learners are allowed to return.
School officials and district education authorities are expected to engage with students, parents and other stakeholders to address the issues raised and restore order at the institution.
Student unrest in Ugandan schools has previously led to temporary closures, with education authorities often citing the need to protect learners, staff and school property while investigating the causes of such incidents.
The reopening of Katerima Secondary School will depend on the outcome of the ongoing assessments and measures put in place to prevent a recurrence of the strike.
