The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has designated three new backbench commissioners of Parliament and appointed former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa to the party’s top decision-making organ.

The decisions were taken during a closed-door CEC meeting at State House, Entebbe, on Friday, according to posts by senior NRM figures.

The new parliamentary commissioners designated by the party are Susan Jolly Abeja, Woman MP for Otuke District, Faith Nakut, Woman MP for Napak District, and Jesica Ababiku, Woman MP for Adjumani District.

The commissioners are part of Parliament’s administrative leadership and oversee the institution’s governance, welfare of MPs and staff, and implementation of parliamentary policies.

The appointments come weeks after the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) designated John Baptist Nambeshe, the Manjiya County MP and the party’s deputy president for Eastern Uganda, as its commissioner on May 28.

NRM Director for Information and Publicity Emmanuel Dombo said the CEC meeting also designated NRM and NRM-leaning legislators to various parliamentary committees and committee leadership positions.

“The Central Executive Committee of the NRM, sitting today at Entebbe State House, designated the NRM and NRM-leaning MPs to the various committees, the committee leadership and to the Parliamentary Commission,” Dombo posted on X.

CEC further directed that the NRM Parliamentary Caucus elect the party’s flag bearers for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on July 5.
