Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) president Cindy Sanyu has reacted to the Ministry of Health’s decision to suspend concerts, events, and other public gatherings following the recent Ebola outbreak in the country.

The Ministry announced the temporary restrictions as part of efforts to control the spread of the deadly virus and protect public health.

Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Cindy said she plans to engage the Ministry of Health in discussions aimed at finding a safer way for musicians and event organizers to continue operating without completely shutting down the entertainment industry.

She explained that artists suffered greatly during the COVID-19 lockdown and does not want musicians to return to a situation where they are left struggling financially.

“I don’t want us to go back to the COVID situation. My plan now is to meet with the Ministry and discuss how musicians can be sustained. I don’t want artists to go back to begging,” she explained.

Cindy added that she intends to formally write to the Ministry of Health requesting a meeting with officials to discuss possible solutions and safety measures that would allow concerts to continue responsibly.

The UMA president emphasized the importance of balancing public health concerns with the livelihoods of people working in the entertainment industry.
