A team of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), working alongside other security agencies, has moved into Bukedea District, stepping up an already intense corruption investigation linked to former Speaker Anita Among.

The officers on Friday entered Aputiput Village in Kamutur Sub-county—Among’s home area—extending an operation that has, in recent days, focused on her known residences, offices at Parliament, and individuals within her inner circle.

Their arrival in Bukedea follows a dramatic raid a day earlier at Parliament, where a combined force of police and military personnel cordoned off the fifth floor of the north wing. The area was declared an active crime scene as investigators restricted access and began examining documents, computers, and other potentially crucial evidence.

Sources within Parliament indicate that the investigation, which began over the weekend, is moving quickly, with authorities keen to secure materials before any possible interference.

On Saturday, detectives had already searched several of Among’s properties in Nakasero, Kigo, and Ntinda, reportedly recovering items considered important to the case. The probe has since extended to the home of her husband, Moses Magogo, suggesting investigators are broadening their scope.

The developments have sent shockwaves through Parliament. Reports suggest a tense atmosphere, with some staff and legislators keeping a low profile, while others have withdrawn from public engagements or scaled back their online presence.

Individuals previously seen as close to Among are also said to be quietly distancing themselves—removing photos and limiting visible ties as the situation unfolds.

The escalating investigation comes shortly after Among withdrew from the Speaker race, a move widely interpreted as a response to mounting pressure. In her statement at the time, she cited extensive consultations and personal reflection, saying her decision was intended to maintain unity within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Despite the high-profile nature of the raids, authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific allegations under investigation. However, the scale and coordination of the operations point to a matter of significant political and legal weight.

By the time of filing this report, security remained tight at Parliament, with the sealed offices still under guard as investigators continued their work—an indication that the inquiry is expanding and gaining momentum.
