Outgoing State Minister John Mulimba has urged CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to establish a dedicated desk for whistleblowers to safely report information regarding the corruption probe into former Speaker Anita Among.

Outgoing State Minister for Regional Cooperation John Mulimba has made a significant call for the establishment of a specialized reporting mechanism to aid the ongoing corruption investigations.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala, Mulimba suggested that Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba should create a “whistleblowers’ desk.” This desk would provide a secure avenue for individuals, particularly Members of Parliament, to share information and evidence related to alleged corrupt dealings.

Mulimba emphasized that many people possess crucial information about the alleged illegal activities of former Speaker Anita Among but are hesitant to come forward due to fear of repercussions. He stated, “People are now willing to volunteer information. I am here to open Pandora’s box and tell the nation that there is a need for all of us to support the security forces in the ongoing crackdown on corruption.”

The minister’s remarks come in the wake of Operation Usifadi, initiated by Gen. Muhoozi with a raid on Among’s residence, which has since expanded to include other properties and her office. The investigation centers on allegations of corruption, illegal dealings, and self-enrichment, with security forces reportedly seizing several high-value vehicles.

Mulimba also voiced concerns about the erosion of Parliament’s independence during Among’s tenure, describing it as a place where “one person could abuse anybody at will” rather than a forum for debate.

Additionally, the Samia-Bugwe MP appealed for the corruption probe to extend to the ruling NRM party, alleging that some officials used substantial funds to influence voters during his re-election campaign, a claim for which he did not present immediate evidence.

The investigation into the former Speaker’s alleged conduct is reportedly intensifying, according to detectives.
