Major General Felix Kulayigye has officially resumed his duties as the substantive Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI) for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) after a period of leave. Colonel Chris Magezi, who served as the acting DDPI during Kulayigye’s absence, announced the return in a statement.

Kulayigye’s return follows a series of significant developments in his military career. In January 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Acting Major-General by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in recognition of his exemplary service and role in enhancing the UPDF’s public image.

Subsequently, in March 2025, President Yoweri Museveni confirmed this promotion, underscoring Kulayigye’s contributions to the UPDF’s visibility and reputation both locally and internationally.

Kulayigye’s leadership in the Defence Public Information office has been instrumental in shaping the UPDF’s communication strategy, particularly in managing the image of its foreign missions, including peacekeeping efforts in Somalia and operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His return to the DDPI is expected to further strengthen the UPDF’s public relations efforts and continue the momentum of modernisation and transparency within the force.

Statement by Col. Chris Magezi:

“The substantive Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI), Major General Felix Kulayigye, has resumed official duties after a short period away on leave. I have ceased to act accordingly. The general public and media stakeholders are hereby informed.”

Col. Magezi, who serves as the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, was acting as DDPI during Kulayigye’s absence. With Kulayigye’s return, Magezi’s interim tenure in the Defence Public Information office has officially ended.
