Five people have been preannounced dead and six injured following a road accident that happened on Sunday evening, 8th June, 202,5 in Kyalweza village, Wabinyonyi Sub-county, Nakasongola District.

The accident occurred at 8:30 PM, involving two motor vehicles: a Toyota Hiace (registration number UA 415AV) and a Nissan Diesel (registration number UBL 615T). Both vehicles were being driven by yet-to-be-identified individuals.

According to ASP Sam Twineamazima, the Public Relations Officer for the Savannah Region, preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Hiace was travelling at high speed from the Kampala direction when it veered off its lane and collided head-on with the Nissan, which was coming from the Gulu side.

“It is alleged that the Toyota Hiace, which was coming from Kampala side at a very high speed, left its lane and collided with the Nissan, which was coming from the Gulu side, hence killing five people on the spot and injuring six others,” ASP Twineamazima said in a press statement.

Police responded swiftly to the scene, examining the wreckage and documenting evidence. Eyewitness statements were recorded as part of the ongoing investigations.

The injured victims were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for emergency treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.

Both vehicles have since been towed to Katuugo Park Yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
