The 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results reveal remarkable performance by government-run prison schools, with all inmate candidates passing and qualifying for the UCE certificate.
At the Uganda Government Upper Prison School in Luzira, 40 candidates were registered, 39 sat, and all passed, an increase from 27 in 2024.
Mbarara Main Prison Inmates’ Secondary School had 12 candidates, all of whom passed, up from 11 in 2024. These results highlight the success of prison education programmes in supporting rehabilitation and reintegration.
Nationally, 432,159 candidates sat the 2025 UCE exams in 4,308 centres, a 12.1% increase from 2024. Special Needs Education (SNE) saw 708 registered candidates (342 males, 366 females), including 27 blind, 116 low vision, 60 deaf, 90 dyslexic, and 72 physically disabled learners.
An additional 343 candidates had conditions like sickle cell, epilepsy, or accident-related disabilities. Only four SNE candidates (0.6%) were absent. UNEB provided special arrangements, including Braille papers, enlarged print, sign language interpreters, support personnel, modified questions, and an extra 45 minutes per paper.
The results emphasise Uganda’s efforts to make national examinations inclusive and accessible.
