Ugandan music icon Big Size Bebe Cool has addressed criticism following his recent suggestion to feature American rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z on DJ AG’s street show in London. The remarks, made during his appearance on the program, drew mixed reactions online, with some Ugandans questioning why local talent wasn’t prioritised.
Speaking candidly, Bebe Cool urged fans to broaden their perspective, explaining that global collaborations can benefit all parties involved. “Ugandans need to understand that the world doesn’t revolve solely around their desires,” he said, emphasizing that supporting international stars is also a way of giving back to those who have promoted Ugandan talent.
The “Body Bounce” singer highlighted DJ AG’s role in elevating Ugandan artists on an international platform. In just six months, the DJ has featured both Bebe Cool and fellow Ugandan musician Joshua Baraka, helping showcase East African talent to global audiences. According to Bebe Cool, his suggestion to include Jay-Z was meant to further enhance DJ AG’s show and open more opportunities for regional artists.
Bebe Cool also pointed out that throughout his performance, he consistently referenced Uganda, East Africa, and notable regional artists, which he believes has served as indirect promotion of the region to a broader audience. “Sometimes it’s about contributing to the vision of others, not just your own gain,” he explained, urging fans to appreciate the bigger picture.
