R&B sensation Dj Akio confirmed for World of Sounds

Renowned R&B superstar disc spinner Dj Akio is the latest big name entertainer confirmed for the second edition of the much anticipated World of Sounds.

British R&B sensation Craig David will headline second edition of the World of Sounds concert series, set to take place on August 29, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel Gardens in Kampala with
DJ Akio Kawahito as one of the star support acts.
Dj Akio is an R&B DJ and event organizer, known for his R&B party series.
He is also a creative director and has experience in hip-hop and youth development initiatives. Akio’s celebrates R&B music and creates inclusive communities across Africa.

World of Sounds has introduced a segment known as Jukebox that will be curated by Dj Akio.
It will be a fan engagement session.
He will also play at the After Party, known as R&B and Slow Jams, happening at Noni Vie Parking.

Dubbed the R&B Edition, this year’s show promises an unforgettable night of soulful melodies, immersive art, and rich cultural expression and will feature some of Uganda’s greatest R&B artists of all time. They include; Kenneth Mugabi, Benon & Vampos, Steve Keys, Irene Ntale, Naava Gray, Juliana Kanyomozi, Unknown Prosper, Laika Music.

The British singer, songwriter, and producer Craig David—renowned for hits like “7 Days”, “Fill Me In”, and “Walking Away”—will perform live for the first time in Uganda, in what is expected to be the biggest musical events of the year.

The World of Sounds concert series successfully debuted on October 6, 2023, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

“World of Sounds Season 2: R&B Edition is not just a concert—it’s a celebration of rhythm, soul, and artistic fusion,” said Producer Bushington, the organiser.

The addition of Dj Akio adds flavor to the event.

Akio’s passion for R&B started in his childhood, growing up in the 90s, which he considers the golden era of R&B. He began as a hip-hop DJ but always loved R&B, often playing it as opening sets for other DJs.

Akio’s background is diverse, with a Japanese father and a Dutch mother, and having lived in Japan and the Netherlands, giving him a global perspective from a young age.
He is known for creating memorable experiences with a mix of R&B, dancehall, Amapiano, and Afro House.
Akio’s DJ style is versatile, ranging from slow jams to uptempo grooves, and he is known for building the energy of the crowd throughout the night. He also utilizes the microphone more now to hype up the crowd, something he didn’t do much in the past.

World of Sounds is a must attend!
